FELLOWSHIP OPPORTUNITY on
MINERAL ORGANIC INTERACTIONS AND SELF-ASSEMBLY IN EXTREME CHEMICAL ENVIRONMENTS
A Ph.D. position is offered at the Laboratorio de Estudios Cristalográficos (LEC) in Granada (Spain). We are looking for exceptionally motivated Ph.D. candidates with a keen interest in mineral genesis, mineral growth pattern, early Earth, life detection and origin of life. The thesis will be supervised by Prof. Juan Manuel Garcia-Ruiz
The selected candidate will work for 3 years in an international and multidisciplinary atmosphere on a thesis project related to the transition from geochemistry to biochemistry during the early Earth and the role of minerals in this revolutionary step in the history of the planet. The thesis work includes field trips to extreme geochemical environments in the Rift Valley, from acidic hydrothermal systems in Ethiopia to alkaline lakes in Kenya.
To be eligible to enroll all candidates are required to have a final degree in Earth Sciences, Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science or a similar subject. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are mandatory. The thesis includes field trips.
