Today we have experienced a beautiful day in the surroundings of Lake Natron, in Tanzania on the border with Kenya. We were able to sample there because it is Masai territory and with our guide Lucas Sozoika we didn’t need a passport. Lucas knows the terrain like the back of his hand because, among other things, he brings from Magadi the chlorine tablets that allow them to make the water of the Ewaso Ngi’ro River drinkable before it flows into the lake, from waters that are too alkaline (pH > 9.5, as we have measured). In addition to sampling the immense and beautiful Lake Natron and its northernmost springs, Lucas has taken us to a school and church where we have spent an unforgettable time with these abandoned people in the far north of Tanzania.
Hoy hemos vivido un día precioso en los alrededores del lago Natron, en Tanzania haciendo frontera con Kenya. Hemos podido muestrear alli gracias a que es territorio Masai y con nuestro guia Lucas Sozoika no hemos necesitado pasaporte. Lucas conoce el terreno como la palma de la mano porque entre otras cosas les lleva a esta gente desde Magadi las tabletas de cloro que les permite potabilizar el agua del río Ewaso Ngi'ro antes de que vierta al lago, de aguas demasiado alcalinas (pH > 9.5, segun hemos medido). Además de muestrear el inmenso, precioso y en estas fechas colmado lago Natron y sus fuentes más septentrionales, Lucas nos ha llevado a una escuela e iglesia donde hemos pasado un rato inolvidable con esta gente abandonada en el extremo norte de Tanzania.
